Last year, as soon as soccer and other outdoor sports ended, my kids got bored. And as the glorious fall days gave way to the dreary harbingers of winter, I searched high and low for affordable indoor activities for my preschoolers. I wish I had known about the Metro Arts Center, a division of Louisville Metro Parks, which offers classes for children, teens, and adults in the fine and applied arts.

Registration for fall classes has begun, so now is the time to combat weekend Wii marathons and enroll kids 8-13 in guitar or painting class or engage your creative preschooler with a stimulating art class. Pottery, cartooning, photography, screen printing, silversmithing, flute, and mandolin courses are also available. Class times and days vary, but most begin in October and end in late November or early December.

Check http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/recreation/metroarts.htm or call (502) 937-2055 for more information.

Metro Arts Center is located at 8360 Dixie Highway, four miles south of the Watterson Expressway (1-264) and three miles north of the Gene Snyder (I-265).
